Filtration at the glomerulus is non-specific. What therefore determines whether a substance is excreted in the urine?

  • Tubular modification by reabsorption and secretion
  • The rate of blood flow through the afferent arteriole
  • The oncotic pressure within Bowman's space

Why: because filtration is non-specific, what ends up in the urine depends on how the tubule modifies the filtrate afterwards.
